곡성읍, ‘동지이공 부부’ 뜻 기리며 제례 봉행…100년 나눔 정신 재조명

[Gokseong = Reporter Jang Hyeong-deok] Gokseong-eup in Gokseong County, Jeollanam-do held a solemn memorial ceremony to honor the noble spirit of the "Dongjii-gong couple,” who, even during the difficult period of the Japanese colonial era, donated all their wealth to the local community and laid the foundation for community development.

Gokseong-eup announced that it recently held the "Dongjii-gong Memorial Rite” at the memorial altar for Dongjii-gong, which was set up in front of the Eup Office, with the participation of local residents, officials from Gokseong County and the Gokseong County Council, as well as representatives from various organizations and civic groups.

The event was organized to reflect on the meaning of their contributions to regional development and to pass on the spirit of community solidarity. Participants observed the ceremonial rites in a solemn atmosphere, paying tribute to the couple’s sacrifice and spirit of sharing.

The "Dongjii-gong couple” are known to have donated approximately 100 "du” (a traditional land measurement unit) of farmland to the then Gokseong Township using wealth accumulated through selling salt during the Japanese colonial period. Their devotion is regarded as having played a significant role in laying the foundation for the formation and development of the local community.
In particular, this memorial ceremony has been held continuously every year since 1998 on April 15, and has become a representative event symbolizing not only remembrance but also community unity and solidarity.

Residents and officials in attendance expressed that the couple’s spirit of sharing and dedication continues to resonate deeply in the community today, and agreed on the importance of carrying forward their legacy.

Jeong Myeong-ik, Mayor of Gokseong-eup, said, "The noble spirit of sharing shown by the Dongjii-gong couple continues to serve as an important lesson for our community,” adding, "We will carry forward their values and work to build a warmer and more livable Gokseong-eup where all residents come together.”

[곡성=장형덕 기자] 전남 곡성군 곡성읍이 일제강점기 어려운 시절에도 전 재산을 지역 사회에 내놓으며 공동체 발전의 초석을 다진 ‘동지이공 부부’의 숭고한 뜻을 기리기 위한 추모 제례를 엄숙히 봉행했다.곡성읍은 최근 읍사무소 앞에 조성된 동지이공 추모 제단에서 지역 주민과 곡성군 및 곡성군의회 관계자, 기관·사회단체 관계자들이 참석한 가운데 ‘동지이공제례’를 진행했다고 밝혔다.

이날 행사는 지역 발전의 기반을 마련한 선행의 의미를 되새기고, 공동체 정신을 계승하기 위한 취지로 마련됐으며, 참석자들은 경건한 분위기 속에서 제례 의식을 함께하며 부부의 희생과 나눔 정신을 기렸다.‘동지이공 부부’는 일제강점기 어려운 여건 속에서도 소금 행상을 통해 모은 재산으로 전답 약 100여 두락을 당시 곡성면에 기증한 인물로 알려져 있다. 이들의 헌신은 지역 공동체 형성과 발전의 중요한 기반이 됐다는 평가를 받고 있다.

특히 해당 제례는 지난 1998년부터 매년 4월 15일을 제례일로 정해 꾸준히 이어져 오고 있으며, 단순한 추모를 넘어 지역 주민 화합과 공동체 의식을 상징하는 대표적인 행사로 자리매김하고 있다.행사에 참석한 주민과 관계자들은 동지이공 부부의 나눔과 헌신이 오늘날까지도 지역사회에 깊은 울림을 주고 있다고 입을 모으며, 그 뜻을 계승해 나가야 한다는 데 공감했다.조명익 곡성읍장은 "동지이공 부부의 숭고한 나눔 정신은 지금까지도 지역사회에 큰 교훈이 되고 있다”며 "그 뜻을 소중히 이어받아 주민 모두가 함께하는 따뜻하고 살기 좋은 곡성읍을 만들어 가겠다”고 말했다.
